Carer's Assessments

A Carer’s Assessment is an assessment of a carer's needs related to their caring role, including physical and mental health, financial situation, relationships and willingness to provide unpaid care.

For carers living in the London Borough of Croydon, Croydon Council is responsible for Carer’s Assessments. Croydon Council has commissioned Carer’s Assessments for adult carers of an adult (aged 18 or older) resident in Croydon to the Carers Information Service.

To request a Carer’s Assessment for a client, download and fill in our professional referral form (opens as PDF), tick the box stating that the client requires a Carer’s Assessment, then email the completed form to Please ensure you have the carer’s consent to pass on their personal details before making a referral.

Resources for professionals

There are about 6.5 million carers in the UK today, with an estimated over 33,000 living in Croydon. Many people who have a caring role do not recognise that they are carers and as such never realise what support is available to them. To reach out to more carers using your service, we produce a series of A4 posters for health and social care professionals about the Carers' Information Service and what we are able to offer carers: download the series (opens as single PDF). Alternatively, you can ask for paper copies by contacting us.

We also produce a series of factsheets for carers and professionals about information, advice and support for carers available in Croydon.
